Murals on 24 (Restaurant)

As we all know, Manhattan is all about speed, quality and fine dining and when it comes to great ambiance, there is nothing quite like Murals on 24. As you step off the cobbled street of 6th Avenue where the heady speed of things and into Murals on 24, you almost feel like stepping off the party bus, charter bus, coach charter or elegant limousine and into a quiet, magical and stylish world...not just a restaurant. Searches on the internet reveals that they have put much effort into refurbishing the dining room for the modern look where patrons can dine peacefully on their Mediterranean cuisine of choice. Some say that Murals on 24 gives off a very new combined with very modern feel and indeed, is considered one of Manhattan's newest historical restaurant.
The feature that gave the restaurant its name is Dean Cornwell's original historical murals, which was what gave the owners the idea for restaurant name. Dean Cornwell is known as the Dean of American Illustrators, by the way and it is almost an honor to come see the original for yourself. The murals were created specifically for Murals on 24 back in 1937 for the Raleigh Room. What first catches diners' attention is the mural depicting Sir Walter Raleigh receiving his honor from Queen Elizabeth in 1584.
Something as creative as this has its own history, we will have you know. Due to a dispute regarding compensation, Cornwell painted some rather unsightly and disrespectful paintings on one side of the restaurant which the owners closed off for more than forty years! After forty years of discussion and attempts of compensation and resolution, they came to an agreement and Cornwell finally corrected some of the obscene paintings into something better. There were others which were left there in its original glory.
All in all, the murals gives off a very warm and elitist feeling. Most people would say that it is like stepping into and eating at an art museum. Very elegant indeed.
So, if you have a business lunch coming up or a wedding to plan, Murals on 24 should be at the top of your list venues to have it. And in the meantime, for those planning to make a group visit, charter bus vacation or party bus bachelorette parties, this could be right up your alley.
